BIMI (Brand Indicators for Message Identification)
BIMI is a modern standard that allows for the display of your official, verified brand logo directly in the recipient's inbox next to your email messages. It is a powerful tool that visually confirms the sender's authenticity and increases the recognizability of your communication.
How does BIMI work?
For the logo to be displayed, several conditions must be met. First and foremost, your domain must have a strict DMARC policy (p=quarantine
or p=reject
). This is a fundamental security requirement. Next, you publish a special BIMI record (in TXT format) in your domain's DNS, which points to the location of the logo file in the correct format (SVG).
Additionally, many major mailbox providers (like Gmail) require the logo to be certified by an external Certificate Authority with an appropriate certificate. There are two main types of such certificates:
Verified Mark Certificate (VMC): This is a certificate for logos that are registered as trademarks (or for government marks). Its use, in addition to displaying the logo, results in the appearance of the Google Blue Checkmark next to the sender's name in Gmail.
Common Mark Certificate (CMC): This is a certificate that allows for the display of the logo itself in the recipient's inbox, without the additional blue verification checkmark.
Possessing one of these certificates confirms that you have the right to use the given logo.
Why is BIMI important?
Increased Trust and Recognition: A logo makes your emails instantly stand out in the inbox, building trust and making it easier for recipients to identify your brand.
Stronger Security Signal: Because BIMI requires a strong DMARC implementation, it is a public signal to mailbox providers that your company takes email security and the fight against phishing seriously.
Potentially Higher Engagement: Messages from verified, visually recognizable senders have a greater chance of being opened and interacted with.
BIMI Implementation with EmailLabs
EmailLabs fully supports sending messages that can utilize the BIMI standard. The configuration process (publishing a DMARC record, preparing the logo file, obtaining a VMC/CMC certificate, and publishing the BIMI record) is handled on the domain owner's side. Our platform ensures that correctly configured messages are sent in a manner compatible with this standard.
